Macarena Ramírez, child prodigy of flamenco dance performs at Teatro Flamenco Madrid

From child prodigy to international flamenco dance star conquering the most successful global stages with her unique talent, Madrid’s best flamenco venue, Teatro Flamenco Madrid, is pleased to welcome Macarena Ramirez.

Macarena Ramírez is an outstanding Spanish flamenco dancer, renowned for her impeccable technique, her stage presence and her capacity to transmit the emotional depths of flamenco. Born in Chiclana de la Frontera, in the province of Cádiz, she has been a prominent figure in the world of flamenco dance from a very early age. Her first steps on the flamenco stage


Macarena Ramírez began to dance flamenco at the age of four in Chiclana de la Frontera, winning local prizes and awards. At six, she studied in Jerez with María del Mar Moreno and began to perform in flamenco venues and in the Centro Andaluz de Flamenco. At seven, she won the “Best Newcomer” Award in the TV talent contest “Veo, Veo” and took part in the TV programme, “Menuda Noche” on the regional TV channel, Canal Sur. 


In 2004, she performed in the Jerez Autumn Festival with José Zarzana and recorded a DVD with José Antonio Zarzuela. In 2006, she took on the role of a young Lola Flores in “Lola, the film,” and she joined the Antonio “El Pipa” Dance Company, performing on the international stage.


In 2010, she was awarded a grant to study at the Centro Andaluz de Danza and was interviewed on the programme “Madera de Artista” on Canal Sur. In 2011 she won the Desencaja Young Flamenco Competition and began to tour Europe and America with her own flamenco dance company.


She has performed in many important flamenco festivals, such as the Bienal de Sevilla and the Jerez Flamenco Festival, sharing the stage with other great flamenco artists. She has received training from flamenco maestros such as Rubén Olmo and Eva la Yerbabuena. In 2015 she was the Guest Artist in the Silla de Oro Competition and in 2019 she presented her own show, “8 Letras, 8 Palos”.


Macarena also studied Visual Art and Dance Teaching at the King Juan Carlos University and Spanish Dance at the Mariemma Conservatory in Cádiz. She has been awarded with many prizes, including Second Prize at the Cate de las Minas Competition in 2017 and the Isla City of Flamenco Festival’s Topulic Young Flamenco Artist in 2018.


She has also worked with the Flamenco Companies of Daniel Doña, Teresa Nieto and Sara Baras and has shared the stage with great artists such as Mariana Cornejo, Carmen de la Jara, Rancapino, Antonio Reyes, Paloma Fantova, Andrés Peña  Pilar Ogalla and Javier la Torre. Her international projection has led her to perform in flamenco shows in Belgium, Holland, Germany, Mexico, Switzerland, France and Prague, dancing with her own flamenco company, as well as giving master classes. At the present she is balancing her time between performing with the María Pagés Company and programming her solo galas.

Macarena’s style is characterised by her strength and power, essential elements of flamenco dance, and that indescribable spirit, known as el duende. Her technique is impeccable, with complete command of the more traditional flamenco styles, such as soleá and bulerias, but she also incorporates contemporary elements, which allows her to keep her performances fresh and impactful.  Her corporal expression and her capacity to tell stories with her movements has made her very popular amongst flamenco lovers everywhere.
