Teatro Flamenco Madrid Lab: a boost for new flamenco projects

Teatro Flamenco Madrid launches the first edition of Teatro Flamenco Madrid Lab, a programme of artistic residencies aimed at supporting flamenco creators across the board by helping to create and promote new flamenco projects. 

This initiative by Teatro Flamenco Madrid aims to boost both traditional and contemporary flamenco projects.

With this innovative programme, Teatro Flamenco Madrid hopes to push the creative boundaries in flamenco and provide a space for the creation and launch of new flamenco shows. In addition, we hope to provide a place for creators to reflect on socially relevant issues, using the art of flamenco as a tool for individual and collective transformation in the heart of Madrid.

Requirements

The programme is aimed at helping creators of all types of flamenco (singing, dancing and guitar) and there is no age limit.

The residency will last for 10 days, 5 rehearsal days and 5 technical rehearsals. During this time, the successful creators can take advantage of the resources provided by Teatro Flamenco Madrid. There will be a work space made available on stage at Teatro Flamenco Madrid, supervised technical rehearsals and the possibility of recording content for the purposes of promoting the project. 

Obligations

The selected projects must agree to:

• Participate in press and promotional events organised to raise awareness and promote the project

• Preview presentation of the final project at Teatro Flamenco Madrid within a programme of events which will other projects developed under specific conditions at teatroflamencomadrid.com/#lab

• Participate in a promotional “making of” video and other promotional activities to raise awareness of the residency programme

• Credit Teatro Flamenco Madrid, including the Teatro Flamenco Madrid logo in a visible place in all promotional materials and include mention in all social media posts.

Calendar 

Application - reception of proposals from 22nd January to 15th February 2024

Publication of selected proposals: March 2024

Residencies: between March and June 2024

Applications should be sent by email to j.galvan@artesred.com and should include a full dossier of the project and the director’s resume.

The selection process will be carried out by an advisory committee of renowned flamenco artists. 

With this initiative, Teatro Flamenco Madrid hopes to nourish and promote innovation in flamenco art, providing a space for creation and collaboration between budding flamenco artists and those who are well-established in the flamenco scene.
