First, she finished her further education studies in Spanish Dance teaching at the Maria de Avila Dance Conservatory in Madrid, consolidating her knowledge and skills in this area. In addition, she studied a Masters degree in Performing Arts at the University of King Juan Carlos, a crucial stage in her career development which allowed her to delve deep into the theory and critique of flamenco as well as its history and evolution. This combination of academic training and practice gave her an integral perspective of flamenco and its modern context. 


Mónica Méndez: flamenco show career and awards

Mónica has had a huge impact on flamenco. She has formed part of many well-known flamenco dance companies, such as that of Aida Gómez, José Greco, Antonio Márquez and Domingo Ortega. These collaborations not only strengthened her flamenco technique and expressivity, they also gave her the opportunity to perform in some of the best flamenco shows and festivals in Spain. Her work in these shows connected her to other outstanding flamenco artists, widening her network in flamenco.

Mönica has highlighted the importance of this project as a way of sharing her vision of flamenco with a wider audience, showing the wealth and evolution of flamenco.

As well as her role as a regular cast member at Teatro Flamenco Madrid, Mónica is also a teacher of Spanish Dance and Flamenco, teaching in different academies in Madrid. Through her teaching, Mónica hopes. not only to teach the skills and techniques necessary to dominate flamenco, but also to inspire new generations of flamenco dancers to follow in her steps. “Flamenco is an art that you experience and feel,” says Mónica. “ My mission is that each flamenco dancer understands and appreciates the cultural wealth that is behind it.”
