Lucía Álvarez, artistically known as La Piñona, is one of the most outstanding flamenco dancers of  her generation. Her passion and commitment to flamenco has defined her career.

Lucía La Piñona: hardwork and style

Lucía’s love of flamenco began when she was very young, taking lessons at the local dance academies in the Campo de Gibraltar area of Cádiz. When she was 17 she made the decision to move to Granada to expand her knowledge and soon after she settled in Seville, where she continued her dance studies at Cristina Heeren’s Flamenco Art Foundation. With the guidance of great masters such as Milagros Mengibar and Rafael Campallo, La Piñona developed an impeccable technique and an artistic sensitivity that today defines her flamenco dancing style. 

This incessant search for knowledge has led her to share time and experience with many renowned artists, perfecting her art and constructing her own identity that blends the power of traditional flamenco with a personal, contemporary style.

Throughout her career, Lucía has been awarded many prizes that honour her talent and dedication. In 2009, she received the Federación de Entidades Flamencas de Sevilla Award and in 2011 she was given the prestigious Premio Desplante in the International Cante de las Minas Festival. These awards not only recognise her artistic abilities, but also her commitment to flamenco as an authentic and universal artistic expression. 

Lucía La Piñona: creativity and emotion

La Piñona is not only an outstanding performer, she is also a creator. Her career includes creating many of her own flamenco shows, such as, “Un granito de arena,” “La Vida, La Carne y La Tierra” and “Emovere”,  the latter being praised by audiences and critics alike, obtaining nominations to the Premios Max and the Premios Lorca. In each of these projects, Lucía explores new forms of storytelling through flamenco, showing her versatility and her constant evolution as an artist.
